School is out for the summer (as of last Thursday) and everything feels a bit "off". I am trying to let the girls relax a bit... so they have been hanging out with friends, watching t.v., and being lazy. My oldest has been up at the high school everyday working on the yearbook, diligently trying to finish it. She will be the Editor in Chief next year as a senior and is feeling obligated to be there to help... for that I am proud! All the girls had a great school year... their first year back in Kansas after living in Arizona for 3 years. Thank you to all of the great teachers who made this possible. The second to the last week of school was Teacher Appreciation Week. Some very fun things were created on the fly for my 4th graders' teacher that week.
Now my attempt to post the pictures of these projects...
I made my first paper bag book for Ellie's teacher. I am sure there are many ways to put these together, but I followed no rules... just did it. I cut the bottom side off of the paper bags to the size I wanted. I used butterfly clips to hold it together while I constructed each page layout. I inked all of the pages with black ink... wanting an urban feel to the whole project. After all of the pages were done, I scored a piece of coordinating cardstock to fit over the end as a "binding". I ran it through my Xyron 510 with permanent adhesive and wrapped it around the end. Then I affixed two butterfly clips over it. I fed several pieces of assorted ribbon underneath the clips and tied them to add some extra "cuteness"! The white "pom" ribbon is from Bazzill -- I used it to conceal where the edge of the binding met the paper bag. I used my Xyron Mega Runner to close the "V" on the sides of the bag, which as seen above would actually be the top and bottom of the book. The end was left open as a pocket and I filled each with extra pictures an had the kids fill out a fun "survey" about themselves for Mrs. Jones to remember them by.
I managed to find a day when Mrs. Jones had a substitute teacher and contacted him that morning. I was able to go up to school while these photogenic 4th graders were at recess and was able to get some great shots of them on the playground. The girls were all about getting their picture taken. Most of the boys were cooperative as well, however I had a couple that were less than enthusiastic :(
